The shrub is quite compact, making it ideal for both borders and pots. However, the flowers, which appear from mid-spring to mid-summer, are larger than average and have a purple hue to the white tips of the petals. This deciduous shrub is tolerant of some shade, but it will flower much more prolifically and be happier in a warm, sunny location.

Regular pruning is not necessary as the flowers are on old shoots, but you can encourage bushiness and help maintain an even shape by trimming the soft tips of the shoots after flowering or shortening the shoots by a third.
